The Robert Sundance Summer Camp

Our Vision

Starting in 1990 with a handful of kids, our camp has grown into a UAII tradition that has served thousands of American Indian youth over the years. Today, we continue to honor the vision of our camp founders by serving "Different Clans, One Nation, Our Dream for Future Alcohol Free Generations." Our camp has never charged our attendees a fee, and we aim to broaden the horizon of our youth by reconnecting them to the land and our tribal values of stewardship.

Our Camp

For most of our history, our camp has been held in the beautiful Eastern Sierras, the traditional Paiute homeland of the camp founder and former UAII Executive Director Dave Rambeau.  The Camp is named after Robert Sundance, an early supporter of youth opportunities when UAII started on LA's skid row area in 1974.  Our camp has also traveled to Descanso, Haramokngna, and in 2025, we held a day camp at our new Boys & Girls Club in Los Angeles. Our camp logo is a visual history of our camp, with each detail representing something unique for every year of camp.

Our Programs

Our camp is a unique opportunity for American Indian youth, ages 5-12, to be mentored by American Indian teens, staff, and volunteers. Among our activities, we provide traditional arts & crafts, traditional dance & singing, hiking, fishing, camping, swimming, horseback riding, and hours of outdoor exploration.
