As a department within United American Indian Involvement, we have always had an emphasis on health and wellness. We host nutrition and health workshops throughout the year, promote careers in the medical and dental fields, and provide programs that aim to address issues like substance abuse, mental health, and healthy relationships. Working with the other departments of UAII, there are several events throughout the year that enable us to celebrate and improve the health of our community.
With the opening of our new Youth Center in 2025, there was an intentional effort to ensure that when we did open, we would be a club that would welcome everyone in our community. Our Club trained staff on issues like inclusivity and physical disabilities. We also continue to train our staff on Trauma-informed Care and how to best serve our members. As a Boys & Girls Club, we have access to Spillett Leadership University, which offers free courses for professional growth to address these issues.
A favorite request of our Club members is to get out of the urban landscape and experience something new in the outdoors. Our club members like to go camping, hiking, fishing, and white-water rafting. Our club works with the California State Park system to provide outdoor recreation activities for our youth and their families. Our staff attends trainings put on by the state, including the Outdoor Recreation Leadership course, designed to provide high-quality outdoor programming.
